January 4, 2024 ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- The University of Michigan baseball team will play in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge, it was announced Thursday (Jan. 4). In addition to the Wolverines, the tournament will feature seven other college teams from Feb. 13-16, 2025.
"The Puerto Rico Challenge will be transformative for our team, enhancing both our athletic participation and cultural appreciation," said head coach Tracy Smith.
January 4th, 2024 DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson University's baseball program proudly announces its participation in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge, set to take place from February 13-16, 2025, in Ponce and Mayagüez.
The tournament, hosted by JoGi Sports and MB Sports and presented by Discover Puerto Rico, will bring together eight Division I collegiate baseball teams for a historic event.
January 9, 2024 -- Storrs, Ct. - The UConn baseball team has announced it will open the 2025 season in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge, produced by JoGi Sports and MB Sports, and presented by Discover Puerto Rico in partnership with Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
The Huskies are one of eight teams participating in the Challenge, a field that includes Michigan, Missouri, Penn State, Rice, Stetson, Villanova and Virginia. Games will be played in the cities of Ponce, at Francisco "Paquito" Montaner Stadium, while contests in Mayaguez will be played at Isidoro García Stadium.
January 8, 2024 -CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – For the first time in program history, the Virginia baseball team will play regular season games outside the continental United States when it opens its 2025 season at the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge on opening weekend (February 13-16).
UVA is one of eight teams committed to the event – UConn, Michigan, Missouri, Penn State, Rice, Stetson and Villanova. Games will take place in the cities of Ponce at Francisco “Paquito” Montaner Stadium while contests in Mayagüez will be played at Isidoro García Stadium.
January 9, 2024 -UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball, led by head coach Mike Gambino, is set to begin the 2025 season in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge on February 13-16, 2025 in the cities of Ponce and Mayagüez.
"We are honored to play in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge," said Gambino. "It's a great opportunity for our players to experience another culture with excellent baseball tradition and love for our game, while being able to play against strong competition from some of the best teams in college baseball."
January 11, 2024 Houston, Tx. -- Rice will open the 2025 baseball season in a unique setting as the Owls are one of eight college baseball teams who have been selected to play in the Puerto Rico. The Owls will be joined in the first collegiate baseball event of its kind on the island by UConn, Michigan, Missouri, Penn State, Stetson, Villanova, and Virginia.
"Being a part of something historical is always special, but when it is in your home country it makes it truly memorable," said José Cruz Jr. who was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico.
